Maguaré
Maguaré is a Belgian-Colombian band of 12 musicians on stage. An orchestra that has a modern approach to the Colombian cumbia de salon, popular in the 50s and 60s.
The combination of the tambora, tambor alegre and maracón, traditional instruments of the music of the Colombian Atlantic coast, with the accordion, piano, bass and a solid section of 6 winds, invites us to an unforgettable party where cultures are united between rhythms of Cumbia, Charanga, porro and mapalé.
The singer Paola Márquez founded Maguare in 2009 as a graduation project, the band continued to play due to its great success and caused a sensation from then on in different stages in Belgium, France, England, Holland, Hungary among others.
venues such as Bim Huiz in Amsterdam, De Vooruit, De Centrale in Gent and fetivals such as Sfinks, Polé Polé, Afro-Latino, Amsterdam Roots among others.
In 2011 they released their album Cumbia de Insomnia under the label Zephyrus records, leaving as a legacy their own compositions where they found several worlds in a single experience of cumbia in one album.
In 2022 After a couple of years’ break, Paola brings her group back to life, this time with a new line-up led by Steven Devolder, returning to the stage for performances at Jazz June Jette, Tiny Park Sessions Ghent, Guislain Museum Ghent, Parkconcerten Poperinge, Trefpunt Ghent, Veszprém2023 (European Capital of Culture 2023 (Hungary), July 2023 Ghent Festival, Buckplain walter stage organized by the Trefpunt.
Maguare is currently preparing a second album that seeks to seduce more audiences and conquer more hearts.
