Life and musical experience in “Do It Yourself”.

“Five are the characteristics of a solitary bird,
First, it puts its beak in the air. Second, it flies to the top.
Third, it suffers no company, not even of its own species.
Fourth, it possesses no particular color, and fifth, it sings softly.”….

In the rhythm of the world in which we live, under the parameters of society and consumption, finding this oasis is a respite for the soul.

Colombia has many riches and, among them, one of the most important, its people. This is a musical project that wants to highlight the life project of a man who, at some early moment of his destiny, changes the big city to undertake the path of the peasant, learning from the land and the people who are close to it, recovering ancestral agroecological and social practices from the Colombian Andes and sharing the experiences of life. The music grows in this context, enriched along with his life partner and a daughter, who grows under the mantle of the wisdom of the land.

This family creates a participatory space in which the youth of the sidewalks flow to share art, film, music, theater and life, opening a window to the world to share their learning and continue their process. That’s when I arrived, an old childhood friend of the city’s Julián, with whom we shared music and life while the paths and distances were defined at that time, but always treasuring a friendship and the musical connection we always had.

My name is Paola Andrea Márquez Cortés, I am a singer, singer, singer, singer, sometimes I do not know if I am from here or if I am from there. I have been living outside my country for 22 years, growing and learning from many cultures. Belgium has been my adopted country and Colombia is the country that gave me my roots. So, ever since I graduated as a jazz singer, I have always looked south so as not to lose my north, and thus find balance between the worlds that see me mature.

The intention of this project is to bring the life experience of Julian and his family to my adopted country, sharing Julian’s music and compositions with my interpretations, accompanied by Belgian and Colombian musicians.
